The Ashtavinayak Yatra is one of the most revered pilgrimages in Maharashtra, dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the deity of wisdom and prosperity. It involves visiting eight sacred Ganpati temples, each with unique legends, historical importance, and self-manifested (Swayambhu) idols.
-
Each temple in the yatra has a distinct history, associated with divine miracles, legends, and powerful blessings.
-
It is believed that completing the pilgrimage removes obstacles, grants prosperity, and fulfills devotees' wishes.
-
The temples are believed to be thousands of years old, dating back to the Treta Yuga and Dwapara Yuga (eras in Hindu mythology).
-
The idols in all eight temples are self-manifested (Swayambhu), which means they naturally emerged from the earth rather than being sculpted by humans.
